THE JUNIOR GOLF COMMITTEE
of the JAMAICA GOLF ASSOCIATION

PRESENTS ITS DRIVE, CHIP & PUTT COMPETITION 2005

OVERVIEW
The Jamaica Golf Association Drive, Chip & Putt competition has been designed to introduce and involve beginners and intermediate kids to the game of golf, and teach them about the challenging, yet fun skills required to play the game well. All participants are encouraged to do their best and have a terrific time!

Contestants participate in three areas: driving, chipping and putting. Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group (6-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14).

The overall champions will be crowned in December 2005 based on the cumulative/and /or average scoring over the year in the different events on the calendar.

AGE CATEGORIES

This competition has been designed for both boys and girls, between the ages of 6 and 14 years. A child may enter the event and will be placed in the 6-8, 9-10, 11-12 or 13-14 year-old age groups, based upon their age on the day of the event. They will continue in this age group until the end of the calendar/tournament year.

SCORING

The JGA Drive Chip and Putt competition is based on a ranking format declaring the top point earners. The scoring program ranks each participant based on cumulative place finishes during each competition (driving, chipping and putting).

For example, if a competitor has the longest drive in their age group, he or she will have a ranking of one (1). If the same player ranks 10 in chipping and second in putting, that player’s overall ranking score will be 13. Now, all the competitor’s scores will be tabulated based on their combined ranking tally from the three events.

An order of merit system will be devised as the year progresses.

DRIVING

The driving competition allows competitors to attempt two drives/5 irons (depending on the driving range, age and sex), which will be measured for both distance and accuracy.

The goal of this event is to hit the ball as long and straight as possible in a 40-yard-wide fairway that will be created for the competition.

The better of the two drives will be scored.

Drives landing outside the 40-yard-wide fairway will not be counted.

If a competitor swings and does not make contact with the ball, the player may take another swing without penalty.

CHIPPING

Each participant will attempt three chips.

The goal of this event is to chip the golf ball closest to the pin with the combined total of all three chip attempts making up the final tally.

For ease of scoring at least two circles will be “pre-markedâ€
